Measurement Principle

How the Tank Sensor works

The same proven thermal transmission method as the Pipe Sensor — adapted for tank and vessel geometry.

Sensor mounted on tank wall

Welded or flange-mounted directly onto the exterior tank wall at the measurement point — no media contact, no process interruption.

Thermal pulse transmitted

A controlled thermal signal is injected through the tank wall. Any deposit layer on the interior surface acts as thermal insulation, reducing heat transmission.

Deposit thickness calculated

The controller processes the thermal response and calculates calibrated deposit thickness in real time, with 0.01 mm resolution.

Alarm & data output

Deposit data is transmitted via 4–20 mA or RS485. Configurable relay alarms trigger when thickness exceeds defined thresholds.

Installation

Flexible mounting options

Three proven installation methods to suit any tank geometry, wall thickness, or access constraint.

Weld-on stub

A stainless steel stub welded directly onto the tank exterior wall. Permanent, leak-proof, and suitable for high-pressure applications up to 16 bar.

Flange mount

DIN or ANSI flange connection for tanks with existing nozzle connections. Allows sensor removal for maintenance without cutting or welding.

Clamp-on (retrofitting)

Non-intrusive external clamp for existing tanks where welding is not possible. Ideal for retrofitting glass-lined, coated, or pressurised vessels.
