Real-Time Deposit Monitoring, Engineered in Germany

Since 2006, LAGOTEC GmbH has developed and manufactured the DEPOSENS® systems as a trusted solution for capturing fouling and deposits in industrial applications. Originating as a research project at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, we took an idea to market and built it into a recognised brand with customers worldwide. Based in Magdeburg’s Wissenschaftshafen, we combine strong application knowledge with reliable German engineering, backed by in-house after-sales service and specialist partners across Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

ANSWERS

DEPOSENS® QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The essentials on how surface-based biofilm and deposit monitoring works — and where it pays off.

WHAT IS FOULING, BIOFILM AND SCALING MONITORING?

Monitoring involves tracking the microscopic accumulation of bacteria (biofilm), organic or inorganic deposits (fouling), and crystallized minerals (scaling) on heat transfer and process surfaces in real-time.

The DEPOSENS® system utilizes high-precision ultrasonic or thermal-optical sensors directly integrated into the fluid pipeline, detecting the earliest stages of surface deposits without interrupting operations.

While a single sensor provides excellent localized monitoring for critical failure points, a complete facility-wide deployment typically uses multiple sensors located at key heat exchangers and high-risk process zones.

Yes, by utilizing non-invasive clamp-on sensor mounts or hot-tap hot-insertion valves, DEPOSENS® can be fully deployed and calibrated while your process remains fully active.

Absolutely. Biofilms and scale act as highly efficient thermal insulators. Keeping heat exchanger surfaces clean ensures maximum heat transfer efficiency, lowering energy and pumping costs.

Yes, by detecting the biofilm matrix where Legionella bacteria live and multiply. Early detection allows for targeted biocide dosing before dangerous bacterial blooms occur.

DEPOSENS® is highly sensitive to microbiological slime (biofilm), mineral scale (calcium carbonate, silica), organic fouling (proteins, fats), and suspended solids accumulation.

Data is transmitted via 4-20 mA analog signals, Modbus TCP/RTU, or a dedicated cloud dashboard. Alarms trigger instantly when deposit thickness crosses predefined thresholds.

Yes, instead of cleaning on a fixed schedule (which is often too early or too late), DEPOSENS® enables condition-based cleaning, reducing chemical waste and downtime.

Engineered with industrial-grade materials like titanium and high-density polymers, DEPOSENS® sensors typically last over 8 to 10 years under standard operating conditions.

No, the advanced digital measurement core features built-in self-calibration and drift compensation, ensuring stable long-term operation with minimal maintenance.

Yes, with full native support for major industrial protocols, the system integrates seamlessly into any standard SCADA, PLC, or distributed control system (DCS).
